Trinidad Chambliss and Ole Miss beat LSU in Lane Kiffin’s return to Oxford.

Week 3 of college football was a good one. The emergence of first-year head coaches, a top-10 team upset in their home stadium, and the return of a campus villain all gave football fans plenty to watch. 

Here are the biggest storylines from the Southeastern Conference with the third week of the season in the books.

Ole Miss 32, LSU 24

Trinidad Chambliss (8.40 BiteScore) and the Rebels got the last laugh in Lane Kiffin’s highly anticipated return to Oxford. Ole Miss got off to a hot start with a 24-7 lead at halftime, highlighted by scores from running back Kewan Lacy (6.03 BS) and wide receivers Traylon Ray (4.68 BS) and Deuce Alexander (8.38 BS). Dilin Jones (6.79 BS) was the lone scorer for the Tigers in the first half.

Sam Leavitt (7.31 BS) and the Tigers clawed back with two consecutive scoring drives in the third quarter, and a game-tying field goal to begin the fourth. With the game now in his hands, Chambliss responded with a 14-yard run and a two-point conversion that put the Rebels up 32-24 late in the fourth quarter. Jaylon Braxton (8.82 BS) sealed the game on the following drive with an interception, denying an LSU comeback in the Lane Kiffin Bowl.

Kentucky 31, Texas A&M 21

This past Saturday, you saw a true stunner in one of college football’s most difficult places to play in. We saw a first-year head coach with an unranked team outplay a top-10 opponent in every phase of the game in their home stadium. 

Only in the SEC, I tell you! Kentucky is getting a lot out of transfers Kenny Minchey (7.19 BS) and CJ Baxter (5.88 BS), who each had two touchdowns of their own. A top-10 road win in the third week of Will Stein’s tenure is a great sign for the future of Kentucky’s program.

Florida 44, Auburn 39

The first Florida-Auburn matchup since 2011 did not disappoint. This game went back and forth in the first half, but Jadan Baugh, who has a perfect 10.00 BS, and Florida’s ground game took over as the game went on. The final score doesn’t accurately depict Florida’s dominance throughout this game. Jon Sumrall earns his first SEC win at Jordan-Hare Stadium, and they will look to continue that momentum against Ole Miss next week.
