The Gators put the entire country on notice after a dominant, 52-28 victory against Ole Miss on Saturday. Following the win, Florida moved up significantly in this week’s AP Top 25 poll. The team’s jump from No. 21 to No. 8 has it within the top 10 for the first time since 2021, as well as its highest AP ranking since 2020.

You can’t ask for a better start if you’re Jon Sumrall in his first season as a head coach in the SEC. The Gators are playing quality football and look well-coached in the first few weeks of the season, and a lot of that has to do with Sumrall. If you look at his past as a head coach, you know this guy is a winner, but to see his success carry over to the SEC is a great sign for Florida fans.

The key to the Gators’ success so far this year has a lot to do with the run game. Junior running back Jadan Baugh has already cemented himself as a top back in the country and currently leads the conference in rushing yards and touchdowns.

Florida is not only getting quality play on the ground, but they seem to have found their guy in transfer quarterback Aaron Philo. The transfer from Georgia Tech has already found his footing in his first year as a starter for the Gators. The sophomore spent two years at Georgia Tech and only had one career start up until this season. Philo is playing lights out, as he has only thrown two interceptions, and his 72.4% completion percentage ranks second in a conference loaded with quarterbacks.

Although the Gators are gleaming in newfound success, Week 4 was just the beginning of the gauntlet. With one of the most difficult schedules in the country, the Gators will need to be on their A-game for the remainder of the season.
