No team has dominated their opponents this season quite like the Miami Hurricanes this season. Mario Cristobal’s squad isn’t looking for wins; they’re looking for murder. Darian Mensah, SprtsBite’s top-ranked quarterback with a 10.00 BiteScore, is contending for the Heisman, and sophomore receiver Malachi Toney also boasts a perfect score. Outside of Notre Dame, it seems no one on Miami’s schedule is capable of taking them down.
Right now, is there anyone in the Atlantic Coast Conference who can topple the Hurricanes?
To answer the question, we have to look at Miami’s remaining conference schedule. Its remaining games are Florida State at home, Pitt at home, North Carolina on the road, and Duke, Virginia Tech, and Boston College at home.
There is one team that has a minimal chance of defeating Miami. The Boston College Eagles are just not a very good football team, with their only wins being a 6-point victory over FCS Maine and a 7-point victory over the worst team in Power 4 football in Rutgers.
In Week 7, Mike Norvell and Florida State would love to get a rivalry upset, but the talent deficit on offense is too strong for the Seminoles to pull it off.
Pitt was ranked just last week after a 5-0 start, but with star quarterback Mason Heintschel out for the season with a torn ACL, the Panthers have since fallen out of the rankings.
In the first season of the James Franklin era, Virginia Tech started the season 4-0 with expectations off the charts. It has since faltered, dropping its last two against Pittsburgh and California without star quarterback Jaron-Keawe Sagapolutele. Even with their impressive offense led by quarterback Ethan Grunkemeyer (8.76 BS) and running back Jeffrey Overton Jr. (8.17 BS), the Hokies have a tall task ahead if they want to pull off the upset.
The two teams that stand the best chance against the Hurricanes are Duke and North Carolina. The Blue Devils just suffered their first loss of the season this past Saturday at Georgia Tech, but the defending ACC champions have had a solid start to their season. There will be a revenge-like atmosphere around the program, led by coach Manny Diaz, which leads me to believe they will have a chance at winning.
North Carolina, following a rough first year under Bill Belichick, dropped two straight against Clemson and Notre Dame, but picked up a ranked victory at Pittsburgh. The Tar Heels boast an exciting defense, headed by lineman Xavier Lewis (10.00 BS), who has posted 6.5 sacks on the year. We will see Duke and UNC face off in the football version of the Tobacco Road Rivalry on Saturday and receive an answer for the most likely team to knock off the Hurricanes.
