Georgia is set to host Vanderbilt on Oct. 3.
Week 4’s bets didn’t go exactly as planned, to say the least. We went 1-3 on the week, featuring some backbreaking losses on the three losses. Tennessee covered with their late touchdown, Sam Houston State lost the cover by one point on a third-and-goal from the 27 touchdown by Texas Tech, and Missouri and State didn’t hit the over with Missouri stalling out in the red zone at the very end of the game. An unlucky week in our betting season moved us to 10-7 on the year, but let’s hit on some bets this week.
Bet of the Week
Georgia -25.5
Honestly, this bet to me just feels incredibly easy. Georgia is such a good team, and Vandy has been very uninspiring. Georgia beat a significantly better team in Oklahoma last week by 28 and previously covered a similar spread against Arkansas. This is a Kirby Smart-led football team that I have absolutely no doubt will dominate a weaker SEC opponent at home. An interesting storyline to this game as well will be the play of Jared Curtis, the No. 1 recruit in last year’s class, who was committed to Georgia and decommitted to play for Vandy. I think Kirby and his defense come out and show Curtis he made the wrong decision and cruise to another dominating win.
Quick hitters
Oregon State -6
As many of you know, my favorite team to follow so far this year has been Oregon State. They have arguably the most underrated quarterback and wide receiver in the country. They go to Colorado State this week to play the Rams. Braden Atkinson and Jesse Legree are going to absolutely fry this Colorado State defense that gave up 59 points to a much weaker UTSA offense.
Clemson +16.5
Clemson isn’t nearly as bad of a team as Week 1 told us they were. This is a good defense that has played quite well since that game. My main reason for taking this Clemson team, though, is the heavy forecast for rain. Clemson gets Miami in a rain game that heavily plays into the strengths of their team. Gideon Davidson will be able to run enough, and the defense will get enough stops to keep this one close.
Memphis -20.5
Memphis is a good football team, Charlotte is not. Charlotte gave up 43 points to an FCS school in Week 1 and is 0-4. This Memphis offense could score 60 points this week. Jaylin Carter and Marcus Stokes are an underrated duo and will lead Memphis to a big win over Charlotte.
Longshot
Iowa ML
My first longshot didn’t go so hot, but I like this pick a lot better. Give me Iowa at home with GameDay in attendance to upset the Buckeyes. This game has upset written all over it. This is a hot, much-improved Iowa team against an Ohio State that hasn’t looked unbeatable so far this year. This Iowa defense can keep this one close and get this crowd into the game, and Hank Brown gives Iowa more of a chance in these big games than Iowa has had in the past. Give me the Hawkeyes in a close one to really put themselves into the playoff race.
