Week 2 of College Football had some interesting developments regarding the Heisman Trophy race. Dante Moore, one of the favorites in the race, put up an awful game, leading to an Oregon loss and dropping him out of my rankings. 

The race is already heating up as we’ve got a multitude of players putting up high-level stats and winning big games, so let’s get into my Week 2 Heisman rankings.

1. Darian Mensah, QB, Miami

Darian Mensah feels like an unstoppable freight train right now, and I don’t see him stopping anytime soon. Mensah continues to dazzle with his elite athleticism and arm talent. This week he led Miami to an ACC record of 856 total offensive yards. Mensah checks every single box of a potential Heisman-winning player, and he will likely continue his dominance throughout a weaker ACC schedule.

2. Arch Manning, QB, Texas

For Manning’s collegiate career, most have compared him to his uncle Peyton. I believe he’s closer to the other uncle, Eli. 

Arch has shown to have an elite clutch factor in many games, but this showed up more than ever in his massive Week 2 performance against Ohio State. After going down 23-3, and his receivers not doing him any favors, Arch led the largest comeback for Texas under current coach Steve Sarkisian. 

Manning, like Mensah, checks many of the boxes of a Heisman quarterback, and he’s got the Texas brand, which certainly helps.

3. Kamario Taylor, QB, Mississippi State

Is Kamario Taylor the most exciting quarterback in the country? Taylor put the country on notice this week with a dominating win as a road underdog at Minnesota. Taylor reminds a lot of Jayden Daniels in his Heisman season. He’s shown unbelievable arm talent and now he’s proven that his talent is just as much skill. 

He had about 300 total yards and three touchdowns against a very underrated Minnesota team, and I can’t wait to see him against SEC opponents. The only reason Taylor isn’t higher on this list revolves around his team’s potential success and if it could hold him back. 

Since 1980, the only players to win the Heisman with three losses are players like Bo Jackson, Tim Tebow and Lamar Jackson, and the only player after 1980 to win with four losses was Daniels. Unfortunately for Taylor he also doesn’t have the team brand or name that many of these players did. Taylor definitely can win it, but it’s certainly an uphill battle.

4. Jeremiah Smith, WR, Ohio State

At this point we all know who Jeremiah Smith is and what he can do. He’s the definition of a generational prospect, and has put up amazing stats so far this season. He falls this week, however due to his own performance, but his team’s and the players ahead of him. He also will suffer from a trait that he can’t control, that being he is a wide receiver, making it harder for him to win it.
