No. 13 Mizzou is set to face No. 9 Ole Miss in Oxford.
Week 6 was another in-between week in our betting season, going 2-2. We hit both the bet of the week and our first longshot pick. Ole Miss took poor old Vanderbilt out back, and UCLA went into Eugene and took a big one against Oregon. Oregon State also covered once again, and I’ll reiterate, I love those guys. Alabama failed to cover due to what I’ll call some interesting late-game calls, and NDSU had a very disappointing game on offense. After an overall positive Week 6, let’s get into my favorite bets of Week 7.
Bet of the Week
Missouri vs. Ole Miss Over 58.5
These are two of my favorite offenses in all of college football. Trinidad Chambliss is maybe the best quarterback in the country, with an elite running back in Kewan Lacy and a very good wide receiver in Deuce Alexander. Missouri enters with maybe the best three-headed monster in the SEC, with Austin Simmons, Jamal Roberts and Cayden Lee. Some fun revenge-game storylines come into this game, with Kewan Lacy having left a crowded Missouri running back room two years ago and Austin Simmons and Cayden Lee transferring from Ole Miss this offseason.
Jamal Roberts is the guy I look at in this game. He’s had 200 rushing yards in back-to-back games against teams with better run defenses than Ole Miss. Ole Miss has the worst run defense in the SEC, and Missouri has one of the weaker pass defenses. I expect both of these teams to put up a ton of points and comfortably hit the over in this one.
Quick Hitters
BYU +10.5
GameDay comes to Provo for only the second time ever this week to see BYU face off against Notre Dame. While I’m not the biggest BYU fan on the planet, this spread leaves me baffled. BYU has an elite defense, allowing only about 13 points a game on the season. This game will be Notre Dame’s first true test of the year, and it’s on the road in a hostile environment against an elite defense. If that doesn’t sound like a recipe for an extremely close one, then I don’t know what does. Gimme the Cougars to take Notre Dame down to the wire and cover +10.5.
UCLA -2.5
This spread is so low because people are really scared about what this UCLA offense looks like following the season-ending injury to Nico Iamaleava. This feels quick and easy to me. The UCLA offense will be fine and, at home, will be plenty good enough to cover -2.5 against a Wisconsin team that doesn’t really move me at all.
Alabama vs. Tennessee Under 50.5
Another big-time SEC matchup, but I’ve got a completely different view on this one than Ole Miss and Mizzou. There’s only one good offense in this game. Alabama’s offense has been elite this year but showed some flaws last week against Georgia. They now travel to Knoxville in a hostile environment to play an elite Tennessee defensive line. The Vols’ offense is just terrible, and I can end it there. Give me under 50.5 on this one.
Longshot
Nebraska moneyline
I’m honestly surprised this game is even considered a longshot, but here we are. I loved what I saw from Nebraska last week against Indiana, and I hate what I saw from Oregon. Dante Moore won’t be back for this game, and the Ducks are holding Week 7 quarterback competitions. Gimme the Cornhuskers to take this one in Eugene.
