Week 5’s bets went up and down, resulting in another 2-2 week and putting us at 12-9 for the year. Our Georgia bet of the week missed on a rough bad beat, with running back Bo Walker taking a knee inside the 10 instead of scoring, which would have covered. Our boys over at Memphis and Oregon State both covered. These guys have been my rocks all year. Unfortunately, the rain in the forecast for Clemson-Miami cleared up at the last second and allowed Miami to end up covering. After last week’s middling week, let’s get into my favorite bets of Week 5.

Honestly, this bet to me just feels incredibly easy. Ole Miss has been under the microscope all season, leading up to and including the Florida game. They finally got to breathe this past week going into their bye. Ole Miss has arguably the best offense in the sport, toting an elite quarterback, running back and wide receiver trio. While this defense certainly doesn’t inspire much confidence, I expect this Trinidad Chambliss-led offense to absolutely dominate a weak Vanderbilt secondary. Vanderbilt hasn’t been good at all this year, getting killed by Georgia and needing a miracle to beat NC State. Give me the Rebels to get a big bounce-back win coming off a bye in Nashville.

I can’t stop myself from betting on this Alabama team. They are 5-0 against the spread this year, and I don’t see that stopping even against a great Georgia team. This game will be the first real test for these two teams, and the spread on this game is essentially a pick ’em. I simply land on Alabama due to the home-field advantage. In a game where two great teams are playing, I trust the team playing on its home turf. Give me the explosiveness of the Alabama offense to lead them to a close win over Georgia.

This is the best team in the Group of 6 right now. They’ve just been rolling through teams this season, and I see that continuing this week. This North Dakota State defense is absolutely elite and is going to shut down an inconsistent UNLV offense and win a likely low-scoring game on the road to further solidify their College Football Playoff case.

Another team that I keep finding myself coming back to. Oregon State is another team, like Alabama, that is 5-0 against the spread on the season. Oregon State has one of the best offenses in the entire country, not just the Group of 6, and a running back in AJ Newberry who is certainly no slouch. Give me the Beavers offense to dominate a weak San Diego State defense and cruise to a big win at home.

UCLA moves me as a team this year. They have comfortably won every game they’ve been in so far this year. After a dominating win over Maryland and coming off a bye week, I expect the Bob Chesney-led Bruins to come into Eugene and get the big upset. The Bruins will move to 5-0 and throw themselves squarely into the playoff race.

  1. […] Week 6 was another in-between week in our betting season, going 2-2. We hit both the bet of the week and our first longshot pick. Ole Miss took poor old Vanderbilt out back, and UCLA went into Eugene and took a big one against Oregon. Oregon State also covered once again, and I’ll reiterate, I love those guys. Alabama failed to cover due to what I’ll call some interesting late-game calls, and NDSU had a very disappointing game on offense. After an overall positive Week 6, let’s get into my favorite bets of Week 7. […]
