Jeremiah Smith is believed by many to be the best 2027 draft prospect.
In only a matter of days, some of the country’s finest college football players will take the filed. More than likely, some of the stars that are at the forefront of the sport will hear their names called in late April.
It’s time to take a look at some of those names. Here are the five best NFL Draft prospects in college football entering Week 1.
No. 5: Texas WR Cam Coleman
The second-ranked transfer player in the country, Coleman heads to Texas and is looking to make a splash for the Longhorns. Coleman excels off the line of scrimmage as he accelerates quickly and is a top receiver when it comes to contested catches.
Coleman, while impressive, still has not put up a 1,000-yard season in his college career. If Coleman can live up to expectations, he should easily get 1000 yards and be one of the top prospects coming into next year’s draft.
No. 4: Notre Dame CB Leonard Moore
The defensive back out of Notre Dame is a one of a kind cornerback that doesn’t come too often. Moore is a demon in coverage, especially in man-to-man, and is also a ballhawk after recording five interceptions in the 10 games he played last season.
The only concern with Moore is that he needs to improve a slight bit when it comes to tackling. Moore should easily be the first corner off the board in this year’s draft. The question is if he can beat out Dylan Stewart for the first defensive player off the board.
No. 3: Oregon QB Dante Moore
The top Quarterback of the 2027 NFL Draft Class is the man who pulled himself out of the 2026 NFL draft to return to college.
Dante Moore was the projected second overall pick last season, but made the surprising decision to not declare and to return back to college and run it back with the Oregon Ducks. Moore is a great pocket passer and put up impressive stats last season, throwing for 30 touchdowns and 3,565 yards. Moore will most likely be the most sought-after quarterback in this draft class, and has as of right now, the highest chance of going first overall.
No. 2: South Carolina EDGE Dylan Stewart
The best defensive prospect of the class is South Carolina’s EDGE Dylan Stewart. Stewart comes in at a massive 6-foot-5, 250-pounds and has put up solid numbers for the Gamecocks in the last two seasons.
What NFL teams are really going to like about Stewart is the ridiculously high ceiling he has. Stewart possesses rare physical traits that you can’t find in other players, with a solid statistical profile to match it. He logged 33 tackles and 4.5 sacks, while registering a 12.1% pressure rate.
Stewart was still a key factor for the Gamecocks even with his back injury last year, but we will see if Stewart can do even more this upcoming season as he heads into his likely last season of college football.
No. 1: Ohio State WR Jeremiah Smith
This one comes as no shock, as Jeremiah Smith has been talked about as one of the biggest prospects ever since he signed with Ohio State. Smith, in the two years he has been with the Buckeyes, has put up back-to-back 1,000-yard seasons, 27 touchdowns, and was selected as a First-Team All-American, all while helping lead the Buckeyes to a National Championship in 2024.
Smith will almost certainly head into the draft labeled as a generational prospect, but the question is: will he go first overall, or will quarterback-needy teams pass on Smith for a quarterback or other positions of need.
