Last week was an overall success in our betting season. The bet of the week was a major disappointment due to some unexpected weather that popped up and drove the scoring down. However, Mississippi State had an awesome performance and more than covered in that game, and Memphis, even in a loss, continues to help my betting this year by hitting the over with Boise doing some heavy lifting. 

Week 3 brings some familiar faces from some old bets and some new teams that can prove their worth this week. Let’s check them out.

Bet of the Week

The Houston Cougars are hitting the road to face Texas Tech on Friday. This game will get overlooked due to it being on Friday night, along with the presence of LSU–Ole Miss this weekend. This game will be one of the best and most important matchups of the week and it should be a crucial one when it comes to the Big 12 title race.

My pick on this game comes down to a simple difference in these two teams: quarterback play. Texas Tech doesn’t have a quarterback I would trust in a game this big, and Houston simply does. Conner Weigman is one of the most underrated quarterbacks in the country and should be in for a big week. 

He’s played in many games this big and many even bigger. This moment shouldn’t faze him in the least bit and I can’t say the same for Will Hammond. 

Give me Houston at +7.5 and if you’re feeling bold, I wouldn’t feel bad about their moneyline either.

Quick Hitters

Mississippi State has come out of the gate hot with two big wins, and they may get their first real challenge this weekend going on the road at South Carolina. I don’t see this hot start stopping this week either. Kamario Taylor is the real deal and I think he will outplay LaNorris Sellers and lead MSU to, at the bare minimum, a cover. I’m taking the money line in this game.

I’m not normally a fan of taking big favorites to cover big spreads; however, Georgia at -24.5 feels too good to pass up on. Utah just absolutely demolished Arkansas by 33, and I’m supposed to believe that Georgia wins by less than that? Gunner Stockton and the Dawgs will be way too much for the Razorbacks to handle and Georgia will cruise to a cover on this one.

We’re going to another SEC game for my final bet of this week. Florida and Auburn feels like an easy one for me to predict. The difference in these teams comes at the skill positions where Florida has a massive advantage. Whether it’s Vernell Brown and Dallas Wilson through the air, or Jadan Baugh on the ground, Florida will power through the so-far uninspiring Tigers to cover a -2.5 point spread.
