The Big Ten will not allow NFL players to return to its schools.

The Big Ten is set to pass a rule Tuesday that will bar players from returning from the NFL to play for one of its schools.

The vote was unanimously approved by all Big Ten athletic directors and it stipulates that any player who did not withdraw their name from the NFL Draft after declaring, appeared on a professional roster, or signed a contract with a pro team will not be allowed to be on a Big Ten roster.

The ruling follows the controversy from Cleveland’s Dae’Quan Wright and Zxavian Harris from the New Orleans Saints, who are both set to play for LSU after signing professional contracts with their respective teams.

This is possible thanks to a temporary restraining order that was granted by a Louisiana judge, which gives players a fifth year of eligibility. Despite the fact that Wright and Harris signed NFL contracts, the ruling allows them to return to college and enter their name into the transfer portal.

The SEC issued a statement in which they said athletes who leave college and sign professional contracts “should not then be permitted to return to college competition.” However, they did not take any action in the matter. The ACC and Big 12 have announced that they also plan to discuss the topic this week.
